From the New World (Shin Sekai Yori) started with disturbing images in a city on this current era. After this the story moved 1000 years into the future. The world shown in episode 1 looks very rural and lacking technology. In this era humans have supernatural, psychic abilities. Saki Watanabe has recently graduated from Harmony Elementary after undergoing some kind of purification Buddhist ritual. As a result, she has entered Unified Class, a school where people are taught to properly use their powers.
At Unified Class Saki reunited with childhood friends and met new classmates. Shun Aonuma is a talented and level headed boy; Satoru Asahina is an extroverted boy who likes to speak his mind out; Maria Akizuki is a good hearted girl who appears to have a lot of affection for Saki; and Mamoru Itou is a shy boy who has not said much yet. The members of this quintet seem eager and curious to learn more about their abilities and mysteries surrounding this world.
Episode 1 of From the New World introduced as to a very mysterious setting. The main protagonists will be young teens, but the adult cast highlighted seem very intriguing and secretive. I am not a big fan of mysteries, but I hope the revelations we watch are interesting. I was not too impressed with the quintet, but hopefully, they will be appealing characters. I have very high hopes for this series. I wish for From the New World to keep us thrilled for the next 6 months. This episode gets a 9 out of 10.
