After receiving a call from her sister, Houtarou wondered if he had misunderstood or missed something from Chitanda's uncle struggle with the school 45 years ago. The members of the Classics Club asked the librarian (a member of the Classics Club from 45 years ago) to corroborate their theory. Things pretty much occurred the way Houtarou theorized, but Chitanda's uncle was more or less forced to be the face of the movement and ultimately, take the fault.
Episode 5 of Hyouka was curious to me. At first I got annoyed that the story of the uncle still had legs. The prospect of Hyouka revolving around an incident that happened 45 years ago is not a very appealing idea to me. Fortunately, this incident seems to have finally been solved, and the predictable romance between Chitanda and Houtarou seems to be starting to develop. I give this episode a 9 out of 10 because even though the direction of the series is not clear yet, this episode was satisfactory and perhaps and indication on the direction where the show might go.
