Synopsis
The priest died protecting the children from the Balloon Dog.  After this, the children were attacked by the unfriendly rat monsters.  Saki and Satoru escaped together but where caught.  They managed to escape and were aided by a friendly monster rat, who actually knows how to speak.  The monster rat revered Saki and Satoru as gods and explained that they are at war with the unfriendly rats.  The children couple took refuge at the talking rat's nest but were once again forced to flee when the unfriendly rats attacked.

Analysis
Episode 5 of From the New World was very exhilarating and well executed.  I will also give big props to the animation, which greatly enhanced what was happening with the characters.  The children have realized that their world is a very dangerous and mysterious place.  I applaud the creators of this anime for providing the sexual, tense moment between Saki and Satoru because it was uncomfortable but yet very appropriate.  Hoping that this anime continues to shine, I give this episode a 10 out of 10.

Synopsis
It was another typical day at school until Youzan (Haru's older brother) showed up.  Youzan talked  to Shizuku and explained that Haru has been a troublemaker and that their strict father wants him to return home.  But since Haru has returned to school, because of Shizuku, Youzan was going to convince their father to let the younger sibling keep living with his cousin Mitsuyoshi.  Haru and Shizuku seem to have grown closer, but Chizuru's gratitude towards Haru appears menacing for Shizuku.

Analysis
In episode 5 of My Little Monster we learned a bit more about Haru's troubled past.  I was glad to see Haru and Shizuku grow closer, but Chizuru's presence seems a bit tacked on to produce more drama.  Also, I like Shizuku and Haru a lot, but I want to see more of Natsume, Sasayan and even Yamaguchi.  My Little Monster has been enjoyable so far, but I hope the producers do not add too many elements (e.g. Chizuru) to the table and ruin the show.  This episode gets a 8 out of 10.

Synopsis
The Minoshiro, or the terminal for the library, told the children the history of how the world (staring in present times) was ravaged by war when the first humans with psychokinetic powers appeared.  After the human population plummeted, four groups of humans emerged in northeastern Asia.  Humans with PK powers that enslaved others, communities of non PK users, bandits with PK powers and scholars who created methods to curtail further PK abuse.  Apparently the children live in one of these scholar societies.

The children were only able to hear about the cruel history of the world during the Dark Ages (the time between present times and about 500 years from now) because the library terminal had no further historical information.  A mysterious monk appeared and burned the terminal and sealed the power of the children as punishment for learning about the past.  The monk also protected the children from a band of unfriendly rat monsters.  Just when it appeared calmed, a mythical Balloon Dog appeared.

Analysis
Episode 4 of From the New World has to be the best so far.  We learned a lot about the past history of this world.  It was hard to see the children agonize with the truth, especially for Mamoru.  The series has become more intriguing with the new revelations.  For the moment, there is not much to analyze because the episode had mostly revelations and little interaction among the protagonists.  From the New World might have become my favorite series of the fall season.  This episode gets a 10 out of 10.

Synopsis
Following Shizuku's recommendation to smile more, Haru did just that and became very popular with the girls.  However, Haru's old demons of violence returned when he fought an upperclassman, who was harassing a timid girl named Chizuru Oushima.  The latter part of the episode was spent with Shizuku, Haru, Natsume, Sasayan and Haru's uncle fishing and sun bathing in the mountains.  Haru's friends also finally met his older brother.  The episode ended with Shizuku asking Haru on a date.

Analysis
Episode 4 of My Little Monster was another enjoyable one.  It was kind of amusing to see Shizuku jealous after Haru became popular with the girls.  Another main character, Chizuru Oushima, was introduced.  It is too early to tell, but I think that Chizuru will be trouble for Haru.  I also wish for Shizuku and Haru's relationship to develop more, but they seem to be going in the right direction.  By the way, Natsume looks hot in a bikini.  This episode gets a 10 out of 10.

Synopsis
The episode began with another flashback where rebels broke into a building and apparently killed an emperor.  The children went to some kind of nature excursion.  After hearing stories from Satoru about two creatures, the Balloon Dog and Demon Minoshiro, the children decided to look for them.  Eventually they found a Demon Minoshiro at some kind of building (it might have been the same from the flashback).  It turns out that the Demon Minoshiro is some kind of library with knowledge from the mysterious past.

Analysis
Episode 3 of From the New World was very interesting.  I am beginning to enjoy this modality of having flashbacks at the beginning of the episodes, and then look at what Saki, Satoru, Shun, Maria and Mamoru are up to.  I think episode 3 was particularly well done.  Even though this world seems very mysterious and scary, the show is able to create a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.  This episode gets a 10 out of 10.

Synopsis
After backing out on her love confession to Haru, Shizuku became worried because he seemed to be relieved.  Haru, Shizuku, Natsume and Sasayan (Sasahara) decided to build a chicken coop for the roster.  After finishing the coop (along with the help of Yamaguchi's gang), Shizuku and Haru talked things out.  Shizuku decided to start over and go slow.  Immediately after, Haru had to stay at Shizuku's home.  Apparently Haru did not want to go to his home because he did not want to see Youzan, his twin brother?

Analysis
Episode 3 of My Little Monster was another roller coaster of emotions.  I am beginning to feel uneasy about  Haru and Shizuku as a couple.  Haru seems like a giant headache.  Adding to Yamaguchi's unsettling presence is the mysterious Youzan.  Despite this, I thank the creators of My Little Monster anime for offering a series that is engaging.  The comedy angle is this episode seemed kind of tacked on.  I am still seeing this anime as my favorite of the season.  This episode gets a 9 out of 10.

Synopsis
The episode began with another flashback 500 years in the future from now.  A ruler with psychokinetic powers ascended to the throne and began punishing people by killing them.  The majority of the episode is spent in a competition, to roll a ball into a hole, among the students of Unified Class.  In the last third of the episode the protagonists save a strange creature, called "monster rat", from drowning.  Apparently, these creatures are not trustworthy and are not allowed to be near children without power.

Analysis
Episode 2 of From the New World felt tedious with the ball competition.  But once again, the creators did a good job by further peeking our curiosity with the flashback, unanswered questions, and the narration by an apparently grown up Saki.  I continue to be highly interested in this series, and I wait anxiously to find the answers to the questions surrounding this mysterious world.  This episode was good but only gets a 8 out of 10.

Synopsis
This episode picked up right where episode 1 left, with Shizuku being flustered about the kiss from Haru.  Shizuku has always been focused on studying and her future, and has never been interested in being close to other people.  But Haru has appeared to challenge Shizuku's values.  Asako Natsume was introduced as a new character, who is bad at her studies, is pretty and seems like a typical teenage girl, but has no friends.  Despite her initial negativity, Shizuku helped Asako to pass a make up exam.

Analysis
Episode 2 of My Little Monster was heavier on comedy but managed to do some nice character development.  Shizuku and Haru continue to learn new things and cope with different emotions.  The appearance of Asako and Souhei Sasahara (a member of the men's baseball team) indicate that the cast is going to expand.  I continue to love the animation that is simple but detailed and full of color.  Hoping that My Little Monster continues to be strong, I give episode 2 a 9 out of 10.

Unfortunately the last four episodes of Kokoro Connect will not be televised.  I am a bit disappointed by this development, but hopefully, these episodes will be on the home release by Section23/Sentai Filmworks.  I will only blog about two series this fall season.  I did not add a third one to occupy Kokoro Connect's place because I did not find another desirable legal streamed series to blog.  On Mondays I will post on My Little Monster (Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun); on Wednesdays I will post on From the New World (Shin Sekai Yori).

Synopsis
In My Little Monster (Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun) we met Shizuku Mizutani, who is an honors high school girl.  One day she is asked by a teacher/counselor to take school handouts to Haru Yoshida.  Haru has been absent from school as a result of a suspension for fighting.  Shizuku met Haru, and she was very frightened by the odd and violent behavior of the strange boy.  The next day the same teacher/counselor asks Shizuku to convince Haru to comeback to school before he is expelled, but she refuses.

After Haru kidnaps Shizuku they end up eating at a fast food restaurant, where they run into Kenji Yamaguchi and his gang.  Things end badly between Shizuku and Haru after she tells him that people like Kenji are not real friends (Kenji apparently extorts money from Haru).  After another encounter with Kanji's gang, Haru realizes that Shizuku is a true friend and confesses eternal love to her.  Haru also returns to school and begins to adjust to academic life and his crush on Shizuku.

Analysis
Episode 1 of My Little Monster was great.  The two protagonists seem very different from one another, but they seem like a good match for a romantic couple.  This series promises to be a riot but also and emotional roller coaster.  The premise feels very good and the animation is simply but well done.  I only have praise for this new series so far.  The first episode of My Little Monster gets a more than deserved 9 out of 10.

[Sorry for the delay.  I decided to blog about it today.]
